I applaud Victoire for exposing the terrible demands, inhumane treatment and dangerous expectations the fashion industry puts on very young women (and men). Having said that, the story was at times dull, lacking in introspection and “facts” (could have offered some fashion industry stats to back her claims, like # of models that quit due to health issues, # who due each year, etc). This was a “lazy” book. Also, the English grammar and translations are awful. At $20.99 for the Kindle version, I expect a book that had been professionally produced and edited. Just like the French hate when people mangle their language, I, as a native English speaker, also feel the same. This author and publishing house could have put some effort in finding a better translator to ensure “idioms” and other sayings were properly translated and simple grammar mistakes corrected. Not worth $20.99 USD. I’ve purchased much better books for half that. It's a shocking tale of the fashion world's obsession with unnaturally thin, unhealthy women who are held up to the rest of the world as "the ideal". It's a brutally honest story (which maybe makes it so shocking). I found the author endearing in her honesty. At the same time I felt a deep sadness for her and what she had to go through, in order to be able to tell this story.If you suffer from an eating disorder or find yourself on the brink of becoming obsessed with our weight, please read this book. It's worth the read and it may even save your health and life!
